San Diego Zoo

On our second day in San Diego, we went to the world famous San Diego Zoo. It was amazing.

San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park

My Nanni and Grandpa took me, Matthew, and Will to San Diego to visit two amazing zoos. Our first stop was the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park.

Youth Science Institue

This was a great summer camp in Alum Rock.

Happy Hollow - Day 5

Today was the last day of camp and our chance to perform our puppet show to our parents and family. Here is a photo of me acting out my Leaf Cutter Ant part and wearing a plant on my head as camouflage.

Happy Hollow - Day 4

Each day at camp we have been creating rainforest puppets and tomorrow is our puppet show. So far we've made a Blue Morpho Butterfly, a humming bird, a beetle, a Capybara, and a rat.

Today we got to see a beautiful Great Horned Owl (the boa was still shedding).

Happy Hollow - Day 3

We were supposed to see a Rainbow Boa Constrictor today, but he was shedding his skin so instead we got to see a Mexican Red-kneed Tarantula.

Happy Hollow - Day 2

Wow! I love this camp! Today we got to learn about and touch a Prehensile-Tailed Skink (sometimes called a monkey tailed skink). Here is a picture:

Happy Hollow Rainforest Romp

Today I started a week long camp about rainforest animals at Happy Hollow. Each day we will be introduced to a different rainforest animal. Today we got to see one of my favorite birds, the Scarlet Macaw.

San Francisco Zoo

Today Nonni took me and Carolyn to the San Francisco Zoo. I always love going to the zoo and today I saw some great animals. Here are a few of the animals that we saw and that I wanted to share with you.

Addax

The Addax is a type of antelope and is found in very remote desert areas.

Happy Hollow

Today my Mom took me and Carolyn to Happy Hollow Park & Zoo with a couple of my friends. Two of the animals I saw were a capybara and a fishing cat.

Caribou (a.k.a. Reindeer)

Called Caribou in North America and Reindeer everywhere else, they are one of my favorite animals (I have a lot of favorites).

Sunfish - Monterey Bay Aquarium

Today Nonni took me, my sister, and my two cousins to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I loved seeing the new otter exhibit and the Ocean Sunfish (seen below). Thanks Nonni!

Armadillo

I found this great photo series on National Geographic Kids that shows how an armadillo protects itself.

Okapi

Related to the giraffe, the Okapi is one of my favorites.

The Platypus

The duck-billed platypus is an egg laying mammal found only in eastern Australia. It likes to live in streams and rivers but will occasionally make its home in a nice lake.

Bobcat

This is a nice photo of a Bobcat.

Red Tailed Hawk

Here is a great photo of a Red Tailed Hawk in flight.

Capra Ibex

Here is a great photo of a Capra Ibex. Ibexes have amazing horns!

Llama

A Llama is a South American Camelid and is related to the Alpaca, Guanaco, and Vicuña.

Gyr Falcon

My favorite birds of prey are falcons.

Snow Leopards

Found in the cold high mountain regions of Asia, snow leopards are one on my favorite cats. Discovery Channel had a great segment on Planet Earth that showed the Snow Leopard in its natural habitat.

Giraffe at the SF Zoo

Here is a photo my Dad took at the San Francisco Zoo of a beautiful giraffe.



Zoos are a great place for people to learn more about the animals we need to protect. While it's sad to see any animal in a cage, I believe that more good than bad comes from people being able to interact with animals who are well cared for in good zoos.

Gemsbok or Southern Oryx

Found in southern Africa, the Gemsbok is well adapted to living in very dry conditions.

The Kudu

This is a photo of another one of my favorite animals, the Kudu. Unfortunately, they are hunted for their amazing antlers.

Welcome (Zebra & Heron)

Hi, my name is Christopher and I love animals. I'm 5 years old and my Dad thought I should start a blog to show everyone all of my favorite animals.
